Since Gatwick Airport came under new ownership in 2009, there has been an increasing commitment to improving its infrastructure and investing in construction. Bosses at the airport are apparently committed to investing £2.5 billion into various projects up until 2021, with £1.2 billion having already been spent on various enhancements. This latter figure included approximately £200 million that has recently been committed to a variety of projects over the coming year. As part of the company’s Capital Investment Programme, which dictates how they intend to invest into the airport between now and 2021, they have announced that spending on Construction will include all of the following:

  • Upgrading the existing shopping facilities.
  • Expansion of both the North and South Terminal departure lounges and immigration halls
  • Optimisation of taxiways
  • More aircraft parking stands.

In commenting on the plans, Gatwick Airport Chief Executive Officer Stewart Wingate said: “As Gatwick rapidly approaches full capacity, this increased investment paves the way for our second runway project.

“As we enter a new era for Britain, we must be agile and decisive as a country to show the world that we are open for business.

It is now clear that only Gatwick can deliver the runway Britain needs to boost international competitiveness and trading links at a time when it is most needed, and we can do that before 2025.

This investment will also make sure that we can continue Gatwick’s record growth and transformation. Our total investment since coming into private ownership now stands at £2.5 billion as we operate the World’s most efficient single runway airport.”

With this further investment, more opportunities are provided to Specialists in the construction industry. This is something that C-Link supports wholeheartedly and we aim to do whatever we can to provide new leads for Specialists capable of working on projects of all sizes.
