Crossrail 2 Briefing Day To Be Held in London

Published by admin | Date 19 August 2016

Transport for London has announced that it is planning a special briefing day in mid-September that will allow the Construction industry to find out more details regarding Crossrail 2 and potential contracts related to the development. Crossrail 2 will serve both London and the wider South East area, with the aim of connecting the National Rail networks in Surrey and Hertfordshire via a number of new tunnels and stations between Tottenham Hale, Wimbledon and New Southgate. These would link with the London Underground and Overground networks, Crossrail 1 and a number of national and international services. The proposed plans would be good for the economy, creating 200,000 new jobs in addition to the same amount of new homes in the regions surrounding the development. The briefing day will outline the long and short-term plans for the project, which is estimated to cost somewhere in the region of £30 billion, offering those in the industry with some more information and insight into how they may be able to get involved in the project.

Attendees will be provided with an overview of the aims of the project, the challenges that the Crossrail 2 team face and the current priorities in terms of getting the initial stages of development started. It will also place particular focus on the procurement procedures and activity that will surround the project, particularly in terms of enabling preparation of a Hybrid Bill in 2019.

It must be noted that the project has not been completely approved at the time of writing, so the award of any new contracts will be taken care of in the next stage of the process, assuming the approval of the strategic outline business case for the initiative. This is scheduled for the early part of 2017.

Needless to say, this represents an enormous opportunity for UK Construction, particularly Specialists located in London and the South East. At C-Link we encourage all of our members to consider attendance at the briefing.

Procurement is also an issue that we are obviously deeply interested in, so it will be fascinating to see the proposed processes for this.

At C-Link we aim to provide information to the entire country about Construction, in addition to linking Specialists with Professionals to ensure that projects are completed to the highest possible standards.
